Statement

My work is intuitive. It is a record of my explorations into uncharted areas of my own consciousness. It develops in half-formed hunches and loosely navigated meanderings. It suggests itself quietly, obscurely, requiring me to take risks and trust what is not yet there. I enjoy getting lost in my work, and then finding my way out again. Often the process is uncomfortable. Often I find I've led myself to a dead end, or stop mid-journey in uncertainty and indecision. Eventually, however, something will start to emerge from within the patterns of light and shadow and guide me toward a resolution. The process is one of trust, acceptance and open-mindedness.

My intention is to allow this process to be reflected in the images and motifs of the work. Generally there is a sense of floating about in nebulous, unformed spaces, punctuated by waxing and waning shapes, patterns and architectures. There is a marriage of chaos and structure, opacity and translucency, light and shadow, holding and releasing, contrasting patterns and rhythms, all moving together, dependent on each other for meaning and purpose. This concern with balance and interdependency reflects not only the mechanics of a creative process, but also stands as a metaphor for other processes in my life - biological, emotional, spiritual and collective processes.
